Infants need eye exams too.

August is a month when most moms are thinking about taking their school age kids for a vision tune-up, but did you know that your six month old could use a check too?

While infant exams are a little different from your typical adult exam, the testing is designed to ensure that there are no large focusing errors and that the eyes are working together.  In addition I examine the eyes to be sure that there are no other problems such as congenital cataracts, glaucoma, or other eye health problems.

The American Optometric Association supports primary care physician evaluations and regularly scheduled vision screenings, but also recommends that a comprehensive professional eye examination be performed by an eye doctor at age 6 months, 3 years and 5 years for all children.

These early exams can help to ensure efficient learning and normal vision development.
